The trials of the supporters of the Duke of Monmouth after their defeat at the Battle of Sedgemoor, held in south-western England in 1685. The government's representative, Judge Jeffreys, sentenced several hundred rebels to death and about 1,000 others to transportation to America as plantation slaves.
